Excursions for Cruisers
Positano, Amalfi & Ravello
- Duration: 8 hours
Description
Your driver will be waiting for you at the port and guide you along the legendary SS163 Amalfitana, a coastal road carved into the cliffsides roughly 160 years ago and still one of the most dramatic drives in Europe. As the scenery unfolds between mountain and sea, your driver will share stories of the coast's history, pointing out grand Mediterranean-style villas and the small fishing villages that have quietly preserved a way of life unchanged for generations.
The tour stops in Amalfi, once a formidable Maritime Republic whose influence stretched across the entire Mediterranean, dominated by its magnificent Cathedral founded in the 9th century and rich with Arab-Norman, Romanesque and Baroque influences.
From Amalfi, you'll climb up to Ravello, perched high above the sea with views stretching across the Bay of Salerno. This is a place that has long cast a spell on those who find it Boccaccio immortalised its beauty in the Decameron and J.M.W. Turner captured its light in paintings now held at the Tate Gallery in London. Walking through the gardens of Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone, the magic is still very much alive. Your driver will then return you comfortably to the port in time for your ship's departure.
